WHO ARE WE?
Eggschange was established by a group of Shanghai American School students in the winter of 2010. We have around 50 reliable student members in our project and 10 student officers. (click on the members tab for more information) We have meetings every Friday and officer meetings every Wednesday.
Living in China, it is our responsibility to be aware of our surroundings and of the people and culture around us. Although Shanghai American School students claim to be multicultural and adaptable, for the most part, we live in an isolated “international bubble” that creates a buffer between us and the local society. We live a privileged life, but we should also be aware of the society around us, of the steadily widening gap between the rich and poor, and not only observe, but burst out of the “bubble” to be a part of the community. Students in the “bubble” may be activists of important global issues, but on the contrary, many are not aware of the problems directly around us. This project will allow students to have direct interactions with the problematic poverty in China, connecting the knowledge from inside the classroom to be used in the real world.
OUR MISSION
This club will serve the purpose where students/ parents/ teachers interested in the state of poverty of farmers in China can gather to support the project and help it function. This will give them a chance to express their ambition of making society a better place by having interactions with farmers, and a direct impact in changing their financial state. They will also have a chance to come out of the “bubble” we live in and truly understand the lives and hardships of farmers in rural China.
At the same time, for those interested in business, this process will give them an insight into the management of a business, experimentation regarding business procedures and most importantly, gaining valuable experiences in fundraising and calculating the circulation of money cycling this project.
